I have a confession to make. I LOVE it when clients want to include their furkids in their family pictures and engagement photos. They're part of our family and should be included in our family portraits. I do photograph people without pets and I'm not going to lie, retouching a session where I don't have to remove any leashes is a nice change of pace, but I believe dogs make everything better so when Sydney and Joel asked if their pup Nokey could be included in their engagement pictures, I of course said "yes!". We also took many images without Nokey, so be on the lookout for those in a future blog post.
During the pre-session consultation I learned they're planning a country-themed wedding so suggested the perfect place to deliver that vibe; the A.W. Perry Homestead and Museum in Carrollton, Texas. I've written about this location in the past; I love the large grounds, white farmhouse and gazebo. Depending on how you photograph in it you can create lots of different looks but the rustic barn and windmill are perennial client faves.
It's week 25 of the Pet Photography 52 Week Project and the theme is "tongues". After this Sunday morning session I knew I had the images in the bag for this one! Nokey's sloppy, puppy grin and lolling tongue were made for this topic! You know that old actor's trope "never work animals or kids"? This is why.
