Filler Up!

Most importantly, every single animal you see here is available for adoption as of July 19, 2019 so if you live in the Dallas - Fort Worth metroplex, then you NEED to check out these beauties! The cats are available for adoption from Coppell Humane Society and the pups are available for adoption from Epic Animal Rescue; visit their websites to learn more about them and how you can adopt!

Now on to the business of the post for week 29 of the Pet Photography 52 Week Project, "Fill the Frame". This simply means that the subject literally fills up the frame! This is something that I don't do that often because I adore negative space in an image, giving my subject room to breath, so again this project is pushing my creativity and getting me to try new things.

The Kittens of Coppell Humane Society

This past Saturday was rescue day at the studio, I photographed 11 kittens for Coppell Humane Society and 2 puppies for Epic Animal Rescue (more on them below) - so not a bad way to kick off my weekend!  I took the opportunity to get some REALLY close images for this post and helped a few others along with tighter cropping. Remember, all of these stunners are available for adoption!

I love Sunny's pose in the first image and when Rowdy laid down like a centerfold model and really worked the camera, I knew that image needed to be cropped tighter to show how relaxed he was. Timon was so curious about the camera that I was able to get in REALLY close for this last image; his blue eyes and pink nose jump right out of the image and the symmetry of his face is perfect. Ok, I can see how filling the frame has its place. The image of Timon wouldn't be as impactful if it were wider.

Now let's go the other way, starting close and zooming out. While any picture of Dean is cute, and he has bedroom eyes for days, I think I like the wider angle image a bit better. I like the negative space and his huge puppy feet, all of which adds to the overall snuggly-ness of the portrait. Dean and his brother Sammy (see bonus photograph below) are both available for adoption from Epic Animal Rescue, visit their website to learn more about them and how you can adopt!
