Ready for her Close Up

Week 15 of my personal photography project, the Pet Photography 52 Weeks Project, prompted us to "get close" so I took my favorite girl out into the bluebonnets; Ginger is ready for her close up.  It was very freeing to not worry so much about framing and background and just relax and get in close to those features that make Ginger who she is, like that underbite; it's what suckered me in at the shelter and remains one of her most endearing qualities. But we need to get closer.

Closer

Ginger's teeth are, to quote our next door neighbor, "a complete disaster"; horribly crooked with one canine significantly out of alignment which we lovingly call "the snaggletooth" because her lip often catches on it and she looks like she's sporting an Elvis lip curl - but those eyelashes are to die for; so girly!

Those teeth!

Love those eyelashes!

Ginger's nose was black when we first adopted her but it turned pink in the winter months and then back to black in the summer. A couple of years ago it stayed pink and has gotten increasingly lighter over time. This is known as a "Dudley nose" which occurs when a dog has a pink nose and its breed is *supposed* to have a black one.  It’s called nasal depigmentation and typically, the dog is born with a solid black nose that gradually fades to a pale brown, pink, or in the case of complete depigmentation, pinkish white. Those eyes; I melt when she stares at me and "hugs" me with them.

Dudley nose!

Golden eyes (and that tongue!)

Ginger is always first to pounce on anything that drops on the floor in the kitchen; why? Because she never lifts her head. Our other two dogs look up at what we're doing, not Ginger. She never lifts her head so when something falls, she's in the perfect position to pounce! Smart girl.  I've always loved her pointy little feet; so girly. I call them her "princess feet".

Pretty sure mom dropped a cookie!

Princess feet

The bluebonnets are too pretty to not widen out the frame a bit and capture Ginger enjoying some "mommy and me" time. And cookies.

Wait! There's more! Don't go just yet; take a few more minutes to enjoy other participating photographers' close ups starting with Darlene with Pant the Town Pet Photography serving MA and NH and continue clicking on the bottom of each post for an around-the-world tour.
