The Blue Door

Week 26 marks the half-way point of the year and the Pet Photography 52 Week challenge. The theme this week is "doors". I had just the door in my own town of Coppell in mind; a fabulous blue door in a stone wall that leads to a private garden. The only problem is that it's on a fairly busy road so I was going to need help with Ginger, because safety first. Always. I thought photographing in the morning would be best to avoid a lot of traffic so I asked my husband for help handling Ginger and we headed out at 6:45 in the morning. The light was moody and the sky had a bit of pink and salmon in it, so rather than the bright and airy image I had originally planned, I shifted to something a bit more dramatic.

I never realized that there was landscape lighting on each side of the door, which just added to the drama. I put a speed light just out of frame to brighten up Ginger and walked across the road to photograph while my husband had Ginger on a leash. I had him stand just outside of the door, snapped a few frames in between the cars whizzing past and when I knew I had a good photograph of Ginger, I had him walk out of the frame with her and took a couple more "plate" frames (no subject in the frame) so I could combine them in Photoshop to remove him from the final image (sorry honey).

Between the exposure frames, the images with Ginger and the "plate" frames, I took 30 photographs on this early morning field trip for this week's post. When possible, I do try to photograph new and fresh images for the project because it sparks my creativity and keeps me on my toes to think of fresh, new ideas.

Let's see what's behind the door with Elaine Tweedy of I Got the Shot Photography, serving pets and their people in Northeastern PA and surrounding areas and then continue clicking on the link at the bottom of each post for an around-the-world tour of creative pet photography incorporating doors. Tracy Allard of Penny Whistle Photography is a Certified Professional Photographer with the organization Professional Photographers of America; a designation held by fewer than 2,500 photographers nationwide and a hallmark of consistency, technical skill, artistry and professionalism.  Penny Whistle specializes in both on-location and studio photography providing pet, equine, family, couples & engagement and high school senior portraits as well as corporate headshots and commercial photography services in her studio located in historic downtown Carrollton as well as on location in Coppell, Grapevine, Southlake, Flower Mound and surrounding communities in Dallas – Fort Worth, Texas.
