Water Dog in Action

It's week 24 of the Pet Photography 52 Week Project and the subject is water. With the exception of our dog Ginger, who likes to cool her belly on the first step of the pool, none of our other dogs are keen to go into the water (we're still holding out hope that Rooney will soon be a player for swimming at nearby Grapevine Lake or Lake Lewisville) so I headed to the McInnish Dog Park in Carrollton which has a large water feature in it and I hit the jackpot. Meet Maisie and she LOVES the water.

I arrived early on Sunday morning with my camera in tow and saw a chocolate lab jumping into the water. I ran over and got into position across the pond to photograph the action and yelled to the owner, "Do it again" and explained why I was photographing dogs in the water. Within a minute we realized we knew one another. Beth is active in local dog rescue and fosters for Legacy Humane Society, she's come out for photo events that I do to support Coppell Humane Society and I'd actually met Maisie before!

I had the perfect model for this week's blog post and Maisie was only too willing to chase the ball into the water over, and over and over again! She's now 3 years old, spayed and living an active life with Beth. Maisie came into her life because Beth looking for a dog to take to the lake and dog swimming events. She had pulled several water dogs from local shelters to foster through Legacy Humane Society and was hoping to adopt one of those (otherwise known as a "foster fail"), but none were quite the right match. She broadened her search and adopted Maisie through Allie’s Haven Animal Rescue, who had rescued her, and her 10 puppies, from the Fort Worth shelter in the summer of 2019. Maisie gets along well with all of Beth's foster dogs and adores the water. Because they don’t have a pool, Beth and Maisie go to the McInnish Dog Park in Carrollton and Grapevine Lake several times a week. Beth says "She would happily retrieve her tennis ball all day".

Walking on Water

I had planned to go to the dog park and photograph various dogs in the water and what I found instead was an acquaintance as dedicated to rescue as myself, an amazing model and a success story that spans a hard-working municipal shelter and three great rescue organizations in the Dallas - Fort Worth metroplex. This is a rescue success story if there ever was one!

Now on to Linda Perdue of VPShoots Photography serving the Tampa Bay area to see what she has to share for the topic of water and then you'll want to sail on over to the next story by clicking on the link at the bottom of the post for an around the world tour of wet and wonderful pet photography.
