Three Reasons Why I'm Grateful To Be A Pet Photographer

Friday, November 26, 2021 | By: Tracy Allard

As I reflect on the year 2021 and what I'm grateful for, a few things come to mind; nobody I love has been negatively affected by the pandemic, despite loosing our sweet Dingo in June, the rest of our family remains intact and healthy and in my "retirement" from my corporate career (the use of air quotes when saying the word "retirement" is required by my husband), I'm able to do what I absolutely love - be a pet and equine photographer in the Dallas - Fort Worth metroplex. When I pause on that wonderful thought, three things immediately come to mind why I'm so grateful to be able to do this.

The First Reason I'm Grateful To Be A Pet Photographer Is Puppies

Puppies make me happy. Heck, puppies make everyone happy! As a pet photographer I regularly photograph new puppies soon after they find their forever home, but I also work with local Dallas-Fort Worth dog breeders to create quality imagery to support their breeding programs. I regularly photograph goldendoodles, poodles, labradoodles, border collies, Maletese, Gorden Setters and more, in addition to the ever popular "All-American" mixed breeds of local rescue groups such as Epic Animal Rescue and Coppell Humane Society.

Professional images help Dallas - Fort Worth dog breeders set themselves apart in a crowded market

The Second Reason I'm Grateful To Be A Pet Photographer Is Because I Can Give Families Everlasting Memories

It's fun to photograph puppies as they enter the world, all long-legged, gangly and cute, but capturing beloved family pets just as they prepare to cross the rainbow bridge is rewarding beyond measure.

Giving the gift of everlasting memories of a pet is something that I'm incredibly proud to do. I will shed a tear during the session, and the viewing appointment, knowing that these were some of the last hugs and kisses given.

I know the pain of loosing a pet. When our sweet Dingo left us in June, we couldn't stop looking at the photographs we had of him; it brought us comfort and sweet memories. I always wish the senior pets that I photograph God speed on the journey ahead of them. Letting a much-loved pet go is one of the hardest things we will ever do, but it's also the greatest gift we can give them - relieving their suffering for a peaceful passing. While hard, I couldn't imagine not offering Silver Sessions, they're that important.

I've been known to shed a tear during Silver Sessions, it's emotional to see so much love

The Third Reason I'm Grateful To Be A Pet Photographer Is Because I Get To Spend My Time With People Who Are As Crazy About Their Animals As I Am About Mine

I love all animals and I enjoy spending time with other animal-lovers. People whose lives would not be whole if they were not sharing them with dogs, cats, horses and other pets. These are my people and I'm at home with them and their furry families. It's a wonderful perk of the job, hanging out with animals and the people who love them. Making them happy makes me happy so delivery day is just as much fun for me as it is for my clients. I adore seeing the anticipation of opening their artwork and the smiles on their faces when we hang the portraits in their home that they can enjoy every single day.

All Around The Circle

Let's continue the gratitude by visiting with a few of the other pet photographers in our circle to see what they're thankful for this year starting with Angela Schneider of Big White Dog Photography in Spokane, WA, looking back on an amazing year and then continue clicking on the link at the bottom of each page for an around the world tour of happy thoughts and stunning pet photography.
