Last week I went to the home of Teton (check out his Instagram feed) to photograph him for a Silver Session. His mobility has suffered as a result of an illness, so a house call to his Dallas home was in order.
Teton's mom and dad wanted to capture his personality and their love for him in a relaxed, organic session so I kept things simple and easy as we hung around their backyard. I will definitely be sharing more of this special pet photography lifestyle session in another post, but that will have to wait until after his humans see all the images in their reveal appointment!
For now here's a sneak peek of a moment caught between a mother and her pup. I loved the intimacy of it but thought that the narrow color palette wasn't enhancing the image in any way so tried a black and white edit to bring focus to the storytelling, documentary-style nature of the portrait. I then added a thin, white border to the image, reminiscent of an old Polaroid picture and added some sun rays in the upper right corner of the image to match the position of the setting sun on this over cast day.
I don't get many requests for black and white pet photography but I love it and think it looks great as wall art with modern and transitional decors.
After I had shifted the image to black and white, I knew I had the perfect subject for this week's theme in the Pet Photography 52 Week Project, "creative edit".
