Last weekend I attended an equine photography workshop in around around the Pilot Point and Aubrey areas in north Texas. Just like with dog photography, there are better and preferred angles to photograph a horse, both in motion and when standing.
I grew up with horses and ponies so I'm savvy around them, but I wanted to understand how to produce the best images for my clients and who doesn't want to hang around with horses and a small group of really talented women (both behind the camera and in front of it)? Our host was the well-known horse photographer, Terri Cage of Terri Cage Photography and she put together an amazing three-day agenda of learning and photographing some of the most beautiful girls and women and the stunning horses they love.
This is just one of over a thousand images taken over the three day weekend and I can't wait to share more. The moment I saw this young woman ride over the crest of the hill I knew I had and image for this week's theme of "sense of scale" in the Pet Photography 52 Week Project. There's an old saying that "everything is bigger in Texas" and that includes our skies. Having lived in Texas for over 23 years now, I've become accustomed to a 360 degree horizon and when I travel to heavily wooded places I find myself feeling a bit claustrophobic and yearning to see more sky. I've said it before and I'll say it again; "more horses please"!
